Overview

Vietnam has a long history of silk production, and Hanoi is one of the best places to explore ancient silk craftsmanship. This half‑day tour takes you to Van Phuc Silk Village, which has been producing silk since around the 9th century and is one of the most famous silk villages in Vietnam. Van Phuc silk was showcased at the Marseille International Fair in 1931 and in Paris in 1932, praised as a fine product of Indochina. The village gained further fame from the movie The White Silk Dress, which won the grand prize at the 2006 Busan International Film Festival and the Golden Kite Award in Vietnam, and represented Vietnam in the Oscars. It is also celebrated in the song The Silk Dress of Ha Dong.
